Unison Development purchased this unique condominium for redevelopment in Cambridge, MA and approached Modern Metal Solutions with a preliminary design for a beautiful wood, glass and metal staircase. Modern Metal Solutions Owner and Founder, Chris Aubrey, quickly went to work to create a model of what would become one of the central showpieces of the home.
“Project models are essential in custom design,” Chris explains. “They allow for the flexibility to make changes, whether it’s because the client desires a change in the final look of the design or because of a structural need.”
Once the model was finalized and approved, Chris and his team put the plan to paper with a full set of drawings that detailed all aspects of the staircase for the fabricators. This included specifications for the woodworkers and glaziers as well as Chris’ team of metal fabricators.
“I really enjoy having a hand in the modelling and drawing process, not just from a design perspective, but also for quality control,” adds Chris. “The closer you’re able to coordinate all the different aspects of the design, specification, fabrication and installation of your project, the better your final outcome.”
The final product of this design truly is a sight to behold. The bright, white stair stringers seem to float through the center of the home while solidly supporting the blonde wood treads. Wrapped by glass railings and a multitude of windows, the whole structure is light and airy, opening up the entire home.
The finished property was quickly sold by the developer. A tribute to the success of the project, Modern Metal Solutions has been referred to another developer due to the workmanship and quality of this outstanding project.
