Custom Glass and Steel Staircase Adds Playful Feel to Cambridge-based College Crash Pad

Located in Cambridge, MA, this modern and playful, 2-bedroom unit, was dubbed The Ultimate College Crash Pad by New England Home Magazine. Half of a traditional Harvard Square duplex, designer Kristin Paton completely gutted and reworked the structure to accommodate the dual needs of the owner’s two, college-aged students and their visiting parents.

“This is such a fun, showcase property,” says Chris Aubrey, Owner and Founder of Modern Metal Solutions. “I love how stylish, yet functional and livable the space is.”

Modern Metal Solutions contributed one of the biggest changes to the home’s overall structure—replacing it’s tunnel-like stairwell with an open and inviting, floating staircase. Constructed of glass and steel, each stair is backlit with LED lights and the minimalist rails and glass panels add to the open feel.
